The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the Tronglaobi incident has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister outlining a series of demands, while refilling allegations aimed at tarnishing the image of the committee.
Addressing a press conference, JAC advisor Gouro Moirangcha clarified that the memorandum was submitted on Wednesday and warned against attempts by certain individuals to misrepresent the committee.
He also dismissed claims that JAC members had accepted monetary benefits, terming such allegations as baseless.
He stated that the memorandum includes several key demands, foremost among them being a military crackdown on Kuki militants to restore peace and stability in the State.
The committee also called for the relocation of Central security forces currently deployed in valley areas to hill areas, and for the responsibility of safeguarding villages to be handed over to State forces.
Another demand raised was to allow the public to safeguard themselves, either by providing sophisticated arms or by setting up designated camps for the Pambei group, which is under ceasefire with the government, near the Thangjing range.
The JAC further demanded that the government take full responsibility for those killed and injured in the incident and ensure that their rights and compensations are provided at the earliest.
It also called for a judicial inquiry into the role of the 8 Battalion CRPF Company stationed at P Gelmon area and 2 J&K LI Company at Tronglaobi, alleging negligence in duty that led to the incident.
Additionally, the committee demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the killing of the two children and injury of their mother, along with stringent punishment.
Gouro Moirangcha asserted that unless the demands are fulfilled, the families will not claim the bodies of the deceased.
He also announced that the ongoing economic blockade along Tidim Road will continue, reiterating that no agreement has been reached with the government Meanwhile, a five-member team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), accompanied by the Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur, visited the site of the attack.
The team inspected the house where the incident occurred, as well as the surrounding areas, as part of their investigation.
