The Imphal Bench of the Gauhati High Court has directed all concerned to stop disbursal of cheque as compensation to the owners of the land acquired in connection with the proposed construction of Integrated Check Post (ICP) at border town Moreh.
After hearing a writ petition filed jointly by chairman of JAC-ICP Semjathang Haokip and secretary Ngamjathang Lhungdim, the Single Bench of the Court has also directed the UBI, through which the cheques are being disbursed, to stop it at once as well as other State authorities (respondents) to furnish the details of the action taken up so far in connection with the complaint for recovering the compensation amount forcefully taken from the land owners by a UG group through the senior Government Advocate.
The Court ruling, however, did not mention the name of the UG group in question.
The respondents in the case include State of Manipur represented by Chief Secretary, DGP, State Home Commission, DC/Collector Land Acquisition, Chandel, SP Chandel, Chief Manager of UBI, Imphal and Branch Manager of UBI, Moreh.
Advocate Khaidem Mani is fighting the case on behalf of the petitioners.
The Court has fixed the next hearing of the case after three weeks.
