Governor updated on aid to IDPs, NSU works

Chief secretary Dr Vineet Joshi called on Governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Friday evening and apprised her of various measures being implemented for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in relief camps in different parts of the state.
The chief secretary informed the Governor that essential commodities are being distributed, and arrangement for providing temporary shelter homes for the IDPs are in progress in both the hills and the valley.
When asked about the situation of Jiribam district, the chief secretary said that around 900 IDPs are in relief camps and their needs are being addressed, adding that the Jiribam deputy commissioner has been asked to assess the damaged houses and properties for making necessary arrangements.
The Governor also reviewed the issue of DM University with the chief secretary and asked him to expedite the appointment of a new vice-chancellor and to facilitate joining of newly selected assistant professors.
She also asked the CS to look into the issue of transportation of relief materials from the IRCS to the state through Guwahati.
Meanwhile, major general (retd) TPS Rawat, president VARINDERA Construction Ltd, along with a contractor, called on the Governor at the Raj Bhavan on Friday evening to update her on the progress of the National Sports University construction works.
Rawat informed the Governor that around 50 per cent of the total construction works has been completed, and remaining works will be completed by March next year.
He also disclosed concerns about workforce security, machinery and others due to the ongoing conflict between two communities, but added that with the deployment of CRPF in the University campus, construction work is progressing well, and a workforce of 450 has been engaged.
Governor Anusuiya Uikey, in turn, appreciated their efforts and asked them to keep her updated on any issue that arises, as well as to meet the chief secretary and the DGP.
The Governor also assured them that peace and normalcy will be restored soon as the centre is committed to resolving the crisis in the state.
