Imphal, December 26 2024:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has condemned the Ministry of Home Affairs, for notifying the state government about the decision to permit entry and exit for people living within 10 km of the Manipur-Myanmar b order through a border pass from the Assam Rifles.
In a release, COCOMI reminded that the state government under the directive of the Central government suspended Free Movement Regime (FMR) to stop Chin-Kuki narco-terrorist aggression against the Meetei people and check the influx of illegal immigrants from the neighbouring Myanmar.
Moreover, border fencing is also under process to stop illegal immigrants entering Manipur, it added.
Stating that the directions of the Central government to allow free movement within 10 km of border area is akin to resumption of the suspended Free Movement Regime, the release asserted that people will not allow such move and should be revoked at the earliest.
Constant change of narratives by the Central government not only confuses the people but also belittles the essence of democracy, asserted COCOMI, while reminding that FMR was suspended with an objective to end the conflict in Manipur considering that aggression by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists against the Meetei is primarily carried out by illegal immigrants from Myanmar.
However, the Central government now claimed that the conflict is a communal clash between Meetei and Kuki, it rued.
"The move of the Central government to allow free movement within 10 km of Manipur and Myanmar border can be inferred as a proxy war of the Central government," the release observed, while demanding military crackdown against Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, repeal of AFSPA from the areas re-imposed under six police stations and implementation of NRC in the state.
