Imphal, June 19 2010:
Reacting to news report with regard to a threatening and intimidating relatives of one Nimai of Chairel, SSP (Thoubal) Clay Khongsai has said that a thorough investigation had been conducted on the matter.
As per findings of the probe conducted by Sugnu police the two unidentified persons in civilian clothes who came in a black colour Pulsar motorcycle, posed as Kakching police personnel and issued threats to nimai's relatives are strongly suspected to be the two persons shot dead in an encounter at Wangoo area on June 12, the officer maintained in a statement.
Elucidating, he said in connection with the shooting of Nimai on June 10, Sugnu police team led by H/C H Chattu Singh had gone to Chairel for spot investigation the next morning during which locals informed the police that two motorcycle-borne youths intimidated/threatened the victim's relatives.
H/C Chattu Singh had asked the two youths who they were to which they claimed to be commandos attached to Kakching, the SSP informed while conceding that inspite of the HC unfamiliar with the duo did not bother to verify them further and went on with his duties.
"Hence the presumption that they were commandos" .
On further inquiry amongst the commandos of Thoubal district deployed in various places, no commando personnel had ventured out anywhere in that area in civil clothes in a motorcycle, Clay asserted and opined that as Chairel is a remote rural area considered not safe even by the district police commandos to enter in one vehicle, it would be out of context that commando personnel in civil clothes would move there in motorcycle.
It is not a new thigh that anti-social elements, gangsters and even UGs find it convenient to pose as security personnel/CDOs whenever it suits them, the SSP cautioned.
With regard to speculation that the Wangoo victims might have been the same persons (on motorcycle) who threatened Nimai's relatives, the SSP said features of the slain duo have striking resemblance to the two youths who claimed to be police commandos.
The police statement reminded that huidrom Naoba Singh alias Rajen (25) of Kwasiphai Awang Leikai and Ningthoujam Hemanta Singh of Pangaltabi Mamang Leikai were slain by a team of Thoubal district police commandos at Wangoo area on June 12 .
