Minister Susindro rejects YOM demand for CM's resignation

Imphal, October 01 2023: Reacting to the demand raised by Youth of Manipur (YOM) for resignation of chief minister N Biren, CAF&PD minister L Susindro has asserted that there will be no negotiation with YOM until their demand for the CM's removal is withdrawn.

Briefing media persons at Imphal Airport after returning from Delhi where a meeting between representatives of YOM and ministers-MLAs of Manipur was held on Saturday, Susindro said at the meeting, representatives of YOM put forward various demands some of which are unacceptable.

Expressing serious resentment that YOM representatives used unparliamentary words in their posts on social media, he clarified as that as YOM did not have a specific agenda, the meeting ended indecisively, he said.

The minister further revealed that YOM demanded formation of a regional party after resigning from the national parties and sacking of the chief minister.

In addition, they also demanded that the CM be called to Delhi, which he had earlier refused to take responsibility of, without whose presence they refused to cany on the talk.

Stating that the demand for removal of CM by YOM is not acceptable at this point of time when all should unitedly fighting the enemy and formation of a regional party is akin to inviting President's Rule in the state, Susindro contended that YOM members remained steadfast in-spite of being explained about implications of their demands.

Asserting that the ultimate demand of YOM should be restoration of peace and tranquillity in the state which is also the desire of the people, Susindro said that for return of peace we need to have a middleman/mediator to initiate talks with parties involved for arriving at a solution.

The government of India is trying to take up this work as the crisis since May 3 needs some time to be settled, he pointed out.

The minister also said that resignation of MLAs cannot materialise without the approval of the people who have elected them and the removal of CM will ultimately bring PR in the state.

He also expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which YOM portrayed the MLAs who do not even care to listen to them.

In Delhi, the representatives of YOM even refused to drink water provided by the MLAs arid declined to stay in Manipur Bhawan.

They even refused to listen to what Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) had to say.

The MLAs and ministers presently staying in Delhi are their elders and are also doing their bit to put an end to the present problem in the state by meeting various national leaders, he reasoned.

Minister Susindro affirmed that the government will stand for the territorial integrity of Manipur and will not allow materialisation of the Kukiland demand.
