Two netted with 363.45 gm 'pumpkin' drugs

Imphal, April 25 2024:
A combined team of 39 Assam Rifles and Jiribam police recovered 363.45gm of brown sugar found stuffed inside pumpkins and arrested two people from Kunjabon area along the Jiribam-Tipaimukh road on Wednesday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Mannan Mazumder (31) s/o (L) Abdul Jalil Mazumder of Ganganagar Part -10 and Khalil Ulla Barchuiya (26) s/o Monir Uddin Babhuiya of Ganganagar Part-13 under Sonai police station, Cachar district, Assam.
According to a police report, the combined team deployed for frisking duty from 12.30 pm Wednesday, halted a white colour Bolero Pickup (AS11DC 3506) heading from Tipaimukh, Pherzawl district towards Jiribam for checking.
The vehicle driven by Abdul Mannan had cargo of bananas, which were unloaded and sliced open.
Of the load, around six pumpkins were found to contain five soap cases each packed with brown sugar weighing 363.45 gm.
As such, the combined team apprehended the duo, seized the drugs and handed them over to Jiribam PS for further action.
Meanwhile, chief minister N Biren Singh took to X to congratulate the 39th AR team and Jiribam PS for their vigilant actions and intercepting the brown sugar from the pickup truck.
