IKAL submits memo to President, PM and others

Imphal, June 22 2023: Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL) has submitted memoranda appealing for peace to the President, Prime Minister, Defence Minister and other Union Ministers, said the Lup's secretary Wanhengbam Luwangleima at Manipur Press Club today.

She said seven members of IKAL went to Delhi on June 13 to meet the President, Prime Minister, Defence Minister and Forest Minister and submit memoranda on the present Manipur crisis.

While they couldn't get an appointment to meet them, the team met Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Athawale Ramdas Bandu and apprised him of the present situation in Manipur.

IKAL members submitted memoranda to the respective offices of the PM and others, she added.

A copy of the memorandum available with this paper shows IKAL urging the Centre to take befitting action against infiltrators from Myanmar and bring peace in Manipur.

Manipur at present is marred by violence, attacks on Indian citizens and destruction of properties.

One of the key factors exacerbating the situation in the State is the infiltration of Myanmar-based Chin Kuki militants.

These militants are raging a war against the people of India.

Their attacks on Indian citizens and burning of Government offices and properties are meticulously planned, reflecting a deep rooted agenda, said IKAL.

Besides burning down the houses of Meitei people in Moreh and Churachandpur, the Kuki "terrorists" have destroyed historical monuments that hold immense cultural and historical significance.

Only a handful of Meitei people, who are forced to take up arms to defend themselves and their villages, are facing the well armed Kuki "terrorists", said IKAL.

The innocent Meitei people are facing "ethnic cleansing" with their homes being burnt, dismantled using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and heavy machinery.

The people of Manipur have put their trust in the leadership of PM Narendra Modi.

They believe that the Centre and the State Government will take swift action to dispel the Kuki "terrorists" and restore peace, said IKAL.

Meanwhile, Luwangleima said IKAL will organise a convention for women soon to discuss the present situation and formulate a plan of action to defend villages and bring peace.
