Senapati, December 17 2022:
Frontal organisations of Senapati district including Naga People's Organization (NPO), Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) and Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA) have appealed to Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) to repeal the order banning the Mao people from entering SAPO area frbm December 15 onwards.
In a release, NPO appealed to the SAPO and Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) to reconsider their decision of banning entry of Mao people into SAPO area and allow returnees to reach home safely and be with their friends and families.
"It is unfortunate that a decision like this has come into force at this festive season as many students are returning home for Christmas and other related festivals and programmes," it said.
While the Nagas are on the verge of attain ing the long-awaited solution, with internal embroil among own Naga people would sidetrack the common aspiration.
As neighbour issues and disputes will continue even in the near future but as neighbours, it is paramount that peace should prevail and harmonious coexistence restored.
To live as brothers and good neighbours, it is important to respect one's existence and co-exist peacefully, NPO added.
As the issue between Mao Council and Southern Angami people is still pending with the Board of Arbitrators (BOA) under the Tenyimi People's Organization (TPO), the NPO urged the BOA and the TPO to take up the matter at the earliest possible time so as to avoid future problem, while asking both the communities to desist from escalating the issue.
SDSA also appealed to the SAPO to revoke its press release issued on December 9, 2022.In a letter addressed to SAPO, SDSA president Peter Yonuo stated it is 'pained at the prohibition order on Mao citizens from entering your jurisdiction'.
While saying that SDSA is refraining from making any statement in favour or against either side, the student body said it is concerned over the plight of the students who.
will be returning from different corners of the country to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones.
The SDSA then appealed to "the benevolent office of SAPO to kindly repeal the prohibition order" as it asked for understanding in the larger interest of the student community and to exemplify the essence of Christianity by lifting the said order.
The Association added that it reposes faith in the wisdom of SAPO and a commitment to the ideals of mutual dialogue and "prays that the good Lord touches every heart and makes everyone heralds of peace".
SDWA, on the other hand, said that it "is deeply pained by the unfortunate development of unrest and bitterness escalating this day between siblings of the same family leading to the ban on Mao people by SAPO/SAYO entering in their area".
The apex women's organisation of Senapati district appealed to SAPO/SAYO and their leaders to reconsider their December 7 decision of prohibiting Mao citizens from travelling and enter ing into Southern Angami area, saying that the nature of such action implies an act against the Christian belief by preventing dear children, students and families travelling from celebrating the birth of Christ with the loved ones back home.
While stating that it is impossible for any family or society to co-exist without issues and disputes, the SDWA appealed to both SAPO/SAYO and Mao Council leaders to uphold and respect the wisdom of TPO/BOA before whom the matter is pending for peaceful adjudication and settlement without jeopardizing the very basic fabric of brotherhood.
The association added that it continued to "pray and seek the intervention of God Almighty to guide the leaders of TPO, SAPO/SAYO and Mao Council with wisdom in restoring peace and order in the family" .
