Imphal, May 06 2026:
Denouncing the recent killings of civilians at Tronglaobi and TM Kasom, a protest rally followed by a public deliberation was held at Waithou on Wednesday.
The programme was jointly organised by AMUCO, MSF, COHR, AMAWOVA and PLMPAL.
The rally witnessed wide participation from Meira Paibis, members of Waithou Apunba Meira Paibi, WEYA Club Waithou, SWECA, and various local bodies including Thiyam Konjin Awang Leikai Youth Club, SEWO Thiyam Konjin Warok Leikai, ANMC Thiyam Konjin Maning Leikai, YSDO Thiyam Konjin Mamang Leikai, SOLO Thiyam Konjin Samanching Leikai, as well as villagers from Waithou Chiru Naga village, Waithou Saman Tangkhul, Sangomshang Suktu Karong Meira Paibi, Chabok Kabui and Chingkham Kabui.
The rally commenced from Waithou Bazar Lairembi Shanglen and proceeded towards Ushoipokpi and later Tangjeng before culminating again at Waithou Bazar Lairembi Shanglen, where a public deliberation on the ongoing violence in the State was held.
Participating in the deliberation, AMUCO vice president Dr Norendro Thokchom stated that the prolonged violence in the State, now extending over three years, has witnessed several tragic incidents, with innocent civilians bearing the brunt.
He described the recent killings at Tronglaobi and TM Kasom as particularly distressing and disheartening.
He further said that people are anguished over the continued targeting of innocent civilians, alleging that such acts of violence and atrocities are being carried out with the collusion of central forces, for which, he claimed, there are visible and reported instances.
Stating that central forces deployed in the State are meant to protect lives and property, he alleged that instead of fulfilling their duty, they have turned against the people.
He called for the withdrawal of central forces from the State.
Recalling the Seven Years Devastation (Chahi Taret Khuntakpa) and the role played by women in past struggles, he emphasised the need for unity and collective action in the present situation to restore peace and normalcy in the State.
During the rally, participants carried placards bearing slogans such as "Self Determination is Our Right," "Stop State Terrorism," and "Go Back Central Forces Who Cannot Protect Lives," while also raising similar slogans throughout the march.
