Locals foil drug bust bid, CCL held with drugs

Imphal, April 25 2024:
A member of AntiDrug Campaign, Ningthoukhong suffered injuries and a Maruti Gypsy was torched as locals launched attack on a campaign team which went to Kwakta Ward No 3 to round up an alleged drug dealer.
The injured man has been identified as Khundrakpam Joy (28) son of Joykumar of Ningthoukhong Ward no 6.According to police, around 2 pm Thursday three mefnbers of the Anti-Drug Campaign attempted to bust a drug unit at Kwakta.
Joy who was driying the Maruti Gypsy, stayed back as the two other members proceeded to apprehend a person allegedly involved in drug smuggling and distribution.
However, locals surrounded the team, detained Joy and set ablaze the vehicles, while the two other members managed to flee the scene.
According to the report, a team of Phougakchao Ikhai police rushed to the spot and resorted to blank firing and tear gas shelling to control the mob.
After rescuing Joy, the police admitted him to Moirang CHC and later to JNIMS hospital.
Phougakchao police station also registered a case regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, a team of Imphal East district police picked up a Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) from Yaingangpokpi Bazar under Yaingangpokpi police station with 23gm of brown sugar on Wednesday.
According to a police report, the team picked up the CCL from around 6.30pm and recovered the brown sugar, Rs 79,800 in cash and one black colour TVS Ntorq (MN01 AL 9409) from his possession.
In this regard, Yaingangpokpi PS has registered a case under ND&PS Act, the report informed.
