A one day science seminar on "The Final Countdown" was held today at the conference hall of the DM College of Science, a day ahead of the solar eclipse which would be witnessed in Manipur partially.
The seminar was organized by the directorate of university and higher education on the theme "Total Solar Eclipse on July 22, 2009" in relation with the observation of the international year of astronomy.
It is also a part of the exhibition of activities of science in the college.
Giving key note address of the seminar, selection grade lecturer MR Sen, department of physics, DM College said, the seminar aimed at giving awareness on solar eclipse and its accounts.
Agencies reports said that the total solar eclipse will be visible from Varanasi, Kolkata, Haridwar, Patna, Gaya and some other regions in north India.
The sunrise in this part of the coast on Wednesday will be at 6.14 am and the sun will get eclipsed at 5.30 am.
The eclipse is set to end at 7.16 am.
The eclipsed portion of the sun will be visible in a silhouetted form (like a bangle).
6.20 am will be the time when the eclipse will be at its peak.
In Bangalore, the eclipsed sun will rise at 6.03 am and the eclipse will end at 7.17 am.
In Mumbai, the sun will rise at 6.12 am.
The eclipse will begin there at 5.28 am and will end at 7.19 am.
The total solar eclipse will also be visible in four places of Assam tomorrow with Dibrugarh witnessing the total phase for over three minutes.
Regional Meteorological Centre's Assistant Meteorologist R K Goswami said here today that besides Dibrugarh, the eclipse would be visible at Guwahati, Sibsagar and Silchar.
In Dibrugarh, the eclipse would begin at 5.31 am and its greatest phase be observed at 6.32 am.
It would end at 7.41 am.
In Guwahati, the eclipse would begin at 5.30 am.
With its greatest phase at 6.29 am, the eclipse would end at 7.36 am.
Beginning at 5.31 am in Sibsagar, the greatest phase of the eclipse would be at 6.32 am.
It would end at 7.40 am here.
In Silchar, the eclipse would begin at 5.30 am with its greatest phase be observed at 6.29 am.
Here the eclipse would end at 7.37 am.
In Manipur, the partial eclipse will be visible around the same timing.
