Mizo Govt advised not to interfere in state's affairs

Imphal, June 15 2023: Appealing to the Mizoram government to advice Mizo National Front (MNF) and other organisations from issuing statements detrimental to interest of Manipur and its people, chief minister N Biren cautioned that failure to exercise restraint might strain the healthy relationship between the two states.

Speaking to media persons at his secretariat here on Thursday, CM Biren urged the Mteoram government to stay away from the state's issue and further pointed out that there are Meiteis with the same population as Mizoram in Assam.

The relationship between the two states will not be healthy if Meiteis demand separate administration in Assam and the government too supports the same.

It is irrational to simply support based on community.

So, Mizoram government should control the statements or else; there will be conflict between the two states, he cautioned.

Biren also informed that Manipur police have registered an FIR in connection with seizure of building materials from the destroyed houses from Churachandpur in Silchar. Maintaining that the state government has a firm resolve to safeguard the unity and integrity of Manipur, he assured that the government will not compromise even an inch of land to any force trying to disturb the state's unity and integrity.

N Biren continued that his government will not do anything which is against the interest of the people and ap pealed to the public to have faith in its effort to restore normalcy in the state.

Expressing anguish over the unfortunate incident at Khamenlok, the chief minister strongly condemned both burning of houses and killing of people.

He informed that search and combing operation had been conducted in different places including Kurangpat and Yaingang-pokpi by a team consisting of paramilitary forces and Manipur police to nab the culprits, adding that stringent actions would be taken against those involved in such heinous crime.

He maintained that search operations had been conducted in 41 villages of hill areas and 39 villages adjoining valley areas.

However, there were no arrests apart from recovery of six improvised pipe bombs.

N Biren reiterated that the tension is between the government and those people who have entered the state illegally.

He asserted that some vested interest groups are trying to portray it as clashes between two communities, creating a wall between the communities.

He appealed to the people of both communities to render support in restoring the trust and faith between the communities.

The CM further appealed to the public not to believe in rumours and unverified information which would escalate tension among differ ent communities, adding that some vested interest groups are spreading rumours to incite violence.

If people in the valley hinder movement of security forces and cause commotion, how they will repulse attacks by armed militants in the peripheral areas, he questioned, while appealing to the people to maintain peace in Imphal area.

Prevalence of tension in certain areas of the valley has hampered deployment of security forces in the vulnerable foothill areas, as the same has been used to control unwanted incidents at valley areas, he continued.

Blocking the movement of security forces hampers timely reinforcement in vulnerable areas, Biren maintained while reminding that the security forces are being deployed to ensure safety of the public.

He further urged the public not to carry out sale and pur-chase of land which belong to the displaced people, adding that trust among the people of the two communities will be restored.

Strict action will be taken against those who are involved in such activities, he affirmed.
