Imphal, September 09 2014:
With the government failing to meet its demands including implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State at the earliest, suspension of Y Victoria, Addl SP (Traffic) who raided its office beyond the limit of her jurisdiction and unconditional release of the members who were arrested during the raid; the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has announced its decision to impose a 24-hour general strike with effect from midnight today.
As its demands were not made, the committee also cancelled the proposed talks on the ILP issue with the government which was scheduled today.

Speaking to media persons in this regard, Ibotombi Khuman, convener of JCILPS, said that a torch rally will be taken out on September 10 to press its demands and warned of launching a series of intense agitation if the demands were not fulfilled by the government at the earliest.
He narrated that a drive was conducted by JCILPS Students' Wing on September 5 in Singjamei area to verify non-locals staying in the area without possessing proper identification documents and during the drive; some non-locals were seen rushing into the office of M/s Tashi Interior at Singjamei run by Y Devson who is the elder brother of Victoria.
There, a heated exchanged of words between Devson and volunteers of JCILPS Students' Wing erupted.
Devson was asked to come to the office of JCILPS to bring an understanding over the incident.
Accordingly, Devson turned up in the office on September 8 and threatened that the committee will be disbanded if any injury is caused to him, Ibotombi said.
He further narrated that when Devson was asked to wait for a while as a meeting of the committee was going at that time, the latter replied that he cannot wait for long as he was going to attend a meeting with the Chief Minister.
Even as discussion was going on in another room, a fierce altercation between Devson's party and members of JCILPS Students' Wing broke out in which several people from both sides were injured.
But shortly after this altercation, Victoria rushed in along with some commando personnel and asked to hand over all those JCILPS members who assaulted her brother.
Apart from taking into custody some of its members, police personnel also ransacked office of the committee.
Not only this, a team of Porompat police also came in and tried to take away computers of the office but the attempt was foiled by members of the committee.
Taking strong exception to the conduct of police, Ibotombi suspected that the incident was orchestrated by the government to sideline the demands put up by the committee and termed the government's offer of talks on ILP issue as half-baked proposal.
