10 lakh children to be vaccinated

Mission Director of National Health Mission, Manipur, Dr K Lokendro Singh has said that plans are being made to vaccinate/ deworm around 10 lakh children in the State in the coming National Deworming Day .
Speaking to media persons at the Medical Directorate, Dr Lokendro Singh said that National Deworming day will be observed Nationwide on August 10 and various activities will be taken up in Manipur in connection with the event .
The first National Deworming Day was observed last year and this year will mark the second one for the State though it will be the third iteration for the Nation .
National Deworming Day is usually observed twice a year.
The first phase was carried out in February and the second phase will be conducted on August 10 .
He pointed out that an event for the launching of National Deworming will be organised tomorrow at Ram Lal Paul School and will be graced by the Health Minister himself .
Dr Lokendro stated that the National Deworming day to be organised on August 10 aims to cover around 10 lakh children of the State, between the age of 2 and 19 years .
A Mop-Up Day will be organised on August 17 to cover the children who failed to get vaccinated, he added .
The programme is a joint collaboration between the Health Department, Social Welfare and the Education Department .
Under the programme, teachers will supervise and provide the necessary vaccination/ medicines to the students at various schools .
For infants and toddlers, the previously mobilised ASHA workers will go from places to places and house to house to provide the medicine and the workers of Anganwadi centres at various locations/ Leikais will also provide the vaccination.
