Sit in protest staged

The family members of late Thounaojam (o) Sumila alias Ichan (38) w/o Thounaojam Jiban of Utlou Mayai Leikai, staged a sit in protest at Wangkhei Ayangpalli Leima Keithel demanding actions against those involved in the death of Sumila, who was eight months pregnant at the time .
It may be mentioned that Sumila was rushed to Shija Hospital on August 4 after allegedly consuming poison and died despite efforts to save her .
Her family members pointed out that despite the claim that Sumil had consumed poison, her body bore signs of physical abuse which aroused suspicion and questioned how someone who had previously failed to conceive a child despite numerous attempts, would take poison to end her life after she was eight months pregnant .
The family is yet to claim the body from RIMS morgue .
Speaking to media persons, the sister of the deceased, Sanathoi, claimed whenever Sumil visited her maternal home, she used to tell her family about the abuses at her husband's home due to her inability to bear a child .
She said that on the day her sister died, the husband's family had called Sumila's family members to come to RIMS hospital urgently alleging that Sumil's had been a victim of food poisoning.
While on their way to RIMS hospital, they were told to come instead to Shija Hospital as Sumila had been shifted there.
She stated that when they reached the hospital, Sumil was in the emergency room and was unconscious and the doctor informed the family members that there was no hope of saving her.
Expressing suspicion regarding the death of her sister, Sanathoi asked how a woman who was eight months pregnant could consume poison and urged the authority concerned to look into the matter at the earliest .
The people taking part in the protest carried placards condemning the incident and demanding strict actions against those involved in the death of Sumila .
It may be mentioned that, the husband of the deceased, Th Jiban, is in the custody of Nambol police station in connection with the case.
The autopsy report of the deceased is yet to be released.
