Imphal, August 08 2017:
Senapati people in a general body meeting held today at SDSA office decided to impose a 24-hour total shutdown in the entire Senapati district from midnight of August 9 against the alleged 'callous' attitude of Commissioner (Finance) in issuing a notification which mentioned Hengbung checkpost on NH-2 'presumably under Kangpokpi district' thereby insulting and causing renewed injury to the Senapati people .
The meeting today was attended by Tribe Hohos, public leaders and frontal organizations .
The content in Clause (I) of the notification is insulting and causing renewed injury to the Senapati people especially when the tripartite talks involving Govt of India, UNC and Government of Manipuri is yet to arrive at a conclusive and logical acceptance and where Naga People continue to out rightly reject the present seven newly created districts, a statement said .
The Commissioner has deliberately failed to take notice of the people's position to give clarification to his blunt notification and upon the expiry of deadline served through a press release issued on July 28 and thereafter further negligence to give attention to the representation dated August 2 addressed through Senapati Deputy Commissioner to give clarification, Senapati people have decided to impose a 24-hour shutdown from midnight of Aug 9, it said .
Medical, media, security forces movement will be exempted from the purview of the shutdown, according to a release .
The total shutdown would be followed by picketing of all Government offices in the district on August 11.Further, if the authority remains insensitive to the people's agitation, more intense form of other democratic protests would be launched, it added.
