Imphal, March 31, 2010: Along with signing an MoU between the Government of Manipur and the Intel company, which is to going supply computers for the education of the students in the State, Education Minister L Jayantakumar has announced that computer application education would begin in four selected schools from the current academic session.

The MoU was signed in the office chamber of Education (S) Director today.

From the side of the State Government, the Education Minister appended his signature on the MoU while Intel company was represented by its Director (Corporate Affairs) South Asia Rahul Bedi.

Director of Education (S), Deputy Director and other officials of Intel company were also present at the occasion.

Talking to mediapersons after signing the MoU, the Education Minister explained that computer application in education of the students has been mooted to ensure quality of education being imparted.

On a trial basis, the programme of computer application in the education of students would begin from the current academic session in selected two private schools and two Government schools.

For this, Intel company would be provided 200 computers.

So each of these four schools would be getting 50 computers.

The Minister, however, did not disclosed the names of the schools where the programme would be implemented and said that the matter would be finalized after a joint discussion session with the Education (S) Director and the Commissioner.

The Minister further informed that under the pilot project of the One Laptop Per Child, over 1000 laptops would also be made available to the students very soon.

Rahul Bedi said that teachers would be imparted training for six months on how computer would be used for the education of the students.

Similar training would also be imparted to the students.

He also explained that under the Intel Education India, various programmes like Intel Learn, Intel Teach, etc have been launched successfully in different parts of the country.

In last year lone, one million teachers have been trained under the Intel Teach Programme and benefit of Intel Learn programme extended to 1,00,000 learners spread across 22 States and 5 Union territories.
