Imphal, March 31 2024:
Asserting that the ensuing Lok Sabha election should not be taken lightly, former chief minister O Ibobi said that the state will face an existential threat unless BJP is defeated this time.
He also appealed to the public to support INDIA bloc candidates professor Bimol Akoijam and Alfred K Arthur in the ensuing election.
Addressing a press conference of INDIA bloc held at the office of CPI, Rupmahal Tank, here, on Sunday, Ibobi said that the unprecedented crisis in the state is not just a crisis of the state but a national issue.
BJP is keeping tens of thousands of displaced people in relief camps under a hidden agenda for the last 10 months, he claimed.
Ibobi also stressed the need for deeply understanding the politics at play behind the crisis and urged the public to exercise their voting rights wisely as the election will decide the fate of the state.
Considering the way BJP is ruling in the country, people are asking questions on the survival of democracy, constitution and secularism in the country.
These are genuine concerns and people are apprehensive of the emergence of a dictatorial government, thereby underscoring the need for defeating BJP to save the state as well as the country, he said.
Former secretary of CPI Manipur State Council, L Sotinkumar said that BJP has murdered democracy in the country with its unconstitutional and dictatorial policies.
The chief minister of Delhi has been arrested after months of keeping the education minister of Delhi in jail.
BJP is threatening all the opposition parties at a significant scale with the agenda to root out all rival political parties, he alleged.
While expressing that electoral bond system is the biggest scam of the country, Sotinkumar pointed out that the recently revealed electoral bond data disclosed that BJP received highest share of the bonds.
As such, defeating BJP should be the single most important agenda of the election this time.
This is the reason CPI decided not to field its candidate but to support the most popular candidate of the state, he said.
Joining the media brief ing, CPI state secretary L Thoiren said that BJP is in a crusade to suppress constitution, democracy and secularism through its One Country, One Language, One Culture agenda.
Keeping thisin view, CPI has been carrying out its nationwide 'Defeat BJP, Save Country' campaign since last year.
At the same time, the party's state unit also launched 'Save Humanity' campaign against the hidden agenda played by BJP behind the crisis in the state, he added.
