Imphal, March 31 2024:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president MLA K Meghachandra claimed that ex-MLA I Hemochandra quit the party as he lacks political ethics while adding that the party has nothing to suffer due to his resignation.
Responding to media persons during a press conference of INDIA bloc held at Irawat Bhawan here on Sunday, Meghachandra said that Hemochandra's resignation is not related with the ensuing Lok Sabha election but must be a personal matter.
However, he was in race for the party's ticket for the Lok Sabha election but withdrew his application on his own accord.
On the other hand, he said, there are reports that Hemochandra is relative of BJP candidate Th Basanta Kumar.
In the past, Hemochandra had suggested about retiring from active politics and to take the religious path, the MPCC presi dent said.
Sticking to a political party till he enjoys some benefits and leaving the party when not is an example of lacking political ethics and this must be the reason behind his decision, mooted Meghachandra.
He also declared that in-spite of Hemochandra's departure, hundreds will join the Congress which is a national party with deep historical roots to nation building.
At the same time, as the INDIA bloc is gaining strength such resignation does not and will not affect the party, the Congress state chief maintained.
He further dismissed Hemochandra likening Congress to a sinking ship as figment of his imagination, while opining that criticising the party while leaving only underscores one's true character.
