'Save Manipur, Save Humanity' campaign held

A one-day programme on the theme 'Save Manipur, Save Humanity' was organised by Bishnupur District Council, Communist Party of India (CPI) today at Open Bhawan, CPI District Office, Bishnupur.
Today's programme was attended by party leaders from six Assembly Constituencies of Bishnupur district, said a press release by the Office Secretary, Manipur State Council, CPI.
Comrade Kh Kulachandra, CPI State Secretary Comrade L Thoiren; Assistant Secretaries Comrade M Joykumar Luwang; Comrade N Singhajit and All Manipur Nupi Marup President Comrade M Sakhi Devi graced as the presidium members of the event.
Speaking at the occasion, L Thoiren called for support and cooperation from the masses in the campaign conducted by CPI on the theme 'Save Manipur, Save Humanity', which is being held in different districts across the State.
He stressed on the need of making concerted efforts to safeguard the unity and integrity of Manipur.
He also spoke about measures for strengthening the activities of CPI.
In view of the prevailing conflict situation, Thoiren urged the Government to expedite steps to restore peace and normalcy in the State and ramp up measures for resettlement of displaced people at their respective native lands who are currently taking shelter at relief camps and pre-fabricated houses.
In today's programme, discussions were held on the developmental activities and resolutions were also passed which include urging the Government authorities concerned to take stock of the developmental requirements in Bishnupur District Headquarters and take up relevant welfare measures accordingly.
CPI Bishnupur District Council also demanded that there should be regular supply of water in Loktak lift irrigation canals throughout the year for the well being of the farmers of the district.
The party further demanded that the Tiddim Road in the district should be upgraded to a four-lane highway, said the release.
