Imphal, March 31 2024:
A differently abled candidate has alleged discrimination in the recruitment drive of junior engineer Grade-1 (Civil) of Water Resources Department and section officer in the Public Health and Engineering Department.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club, candidate Paonam Sunibala of Lilong Chajing Karam Mayai Leikai recounted that on April 19, 2023, the Water Resources Department issued notification for recruitment of 50 posts of junior engineer G-1 and seven posts for junior engineer G-2 on contract basis.
Two posts of junior engineer G-1 were reserved for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
Sunibala recalled that based on the notification, she applied for the post in reserved category, passed the written test and participated in the job suitability test.
However, when the results were declared, another PwD candidate who did not pass the written test, was found selected.
On top of this, the results for the two reserved seats were also not declared.
Sunibala continued that on December 21, 2023, the notification for recruitment of section officer G-1 and G-2 posts of PHED was announced, of which three seats were reserved for PwDs.
She applied for the same again.
However, when the results were declared, she was again not selected in the reserved category.
Urging the state government to look into the matter, she appealed to the authority to provide the entitled rights of PwDs.
It is informed that both parents of Sunibala are also differently abled.
