MSFDS launches intensive workshops in film preservation

In a resolute endeavour to nurture the essence of film preservation and production, the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) has announced an ambitious initiative - a series of intensive workshops slated to be held from April 4 to 7 .
This initiative are taken up as part of the commemoration of the 3rd Foundation Day of the esteemed SN Chand Cine Archive & Museum (SNCCAM) and the inception of Manipuri Cinema, celebrated as Mami Numit.
The workshops, meticulously designed to provide comprehensive training in various facets of filmmaking, aim to impart knowledge, foster talent, and celebrate the rich heritage of Manipuri cinema.
With a focus on both the technical and creative aspects of filmmaking, the workshops promise to be an invaluable opportunity for aspiring filmmakers, producers, and enthusiasts alike.
The first leg of the workshops, spanning three days from April 4 to 6, is dedicated to film preservation.
Led by the esteemed film conservator, Johnson Rajkumar, renowned for his unwavering commitment to film preservation and his pivotal role in the establishment of SNCCAM, this segment will delve into the intricacies of preserving films in various formats - be it celluloid, video, audio, or digital.
Participants can anticipate gaining practical skills and theoretical insights into film conservation, restoration techniques, and digitisation methods.
Simultaneously, a two-day intensive Producer's Lab, scheduled for April 6 and 7, will offer a comprehensive overview of film production � from conception to execution.
Mentored by Alexander Leo Pou, director of the Manipur State Film & Television Institute (MSFTI) and an esteemed alumnus of the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI), this segment will provide participants with a deep understanding of the nuances of film production.
Covering aspects such as script development, budgeting, pitching for funding, and distribution strategies, the Producer's Lab aims to equip aspiring producers and filmmakers with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of the film industry.
These workshops hold particular significance as they coincide with the 3rd Foundation Day of SNCCAM, established during the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Manipuri Cinema in 2021.SNCCAM stands as a beacon of cultural preservation, serving as the only state-run Film Archiving and Museum in India, housing a state-of-the-art Film Conservatory Lab and Film Vault Room.
The culmination of these workshops will be marked by a grand valediction function on April 9, also known as Mami Numit - the birthday of Manipuri Cinema.
Set to take place at the MSFDS Auditorium, Palace Compound, the event will serve as a fitting tribute to the legacy of Manipuri cinema, featuring a commemorative programme and floral tributes at the Manipuri Cinema Memorial Monolith at the MSFDS complex at Konung Mamang.
