Minister urges

Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai has urged the womenfolk of the State to make their contribution towards enhancement of the State's economy through co-operative movement.
The Minister made her appeal while speaking as chief guest at the valedictory function of a 10-day training programme on use of scrap fabric for the weavers of North East, organised by Leima Thrift and Credit Cooperative Society Ltd at Kakwa community hall today.
The training programme was held under the sponsorship of North Eastern Development Finance Co-operative Ltd (NEDFI) and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) .
AK Mirabai said that different co-operative societies are currently providing employment to many women in the State.
In this regard, she said that Department of Co-operation is extending support to these societies as well as to skilled artisans.
Lauding its works, the Minister said that Leima Thrift and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd is one of the groups, which shoulder the responsibility of providing employment to womenfolk.
Saying that co-operative movement can bring a change in the society, the Minister urged the unemployed youth of the State to concentrate on developing their skills in different fields which can earn them employment.
Maintaining that NEDFI is also providing support and assistance to skilled youth, AK Mirabai exhorted to tap these opportunities.
In her speech, she also mentioned about the importance of opening bank accounts and adopting the habit of saving money.
It is laudable that Leima Thrift and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd is providing monetary assistance to 110 Self Help Groups, she added.
NEDFI Imphal Branch Manager Priyobarta Gurumayum and SIDBI Imphal Branch Manager Anamika Rajkumari were the president and guest of honour of the function respectively.
