Bpr/CCpur/Jiri/Kpi/Tml/Tpl/Tbl/Spt/Ukl/Cdl, August 16 2019: In view of the celebration of 73rd Independence Day across the country, different districts of the State also celebrated the day with great pomp and fervour by paying tributes to the freedom fighters of the country and by organising many activities and events yesterday.

BISHNUPUR: District administration of Bishnupur celebrated the 73rd Independence Day at Old Mini-Secretariat ground.

L Jayantakumar, Health and Family Welfare Minister hoisted the National flag and received salutes given by 18 parade contingents.

Speaking on the occasion, L Jayantakumar underlined the need for proper utilization of available human resources for development.

Informing the gathering that six of the 30 targeted schools in the 'School Phagathansi' mission lies within the district and that proper care should be given to the free and compulsory education for development, he urged the people to restart a new lives without caste or religious based hatred, but live together as peace-loving human beings.

During the function, different troupes displayed their performances and 44 people were awarded certificate of commendation for their outstanding service and performance.

Elected members of Zilla Parisadh and Gram Panchayats, Neeta Arambam, DC, Bishnupur, high ranking civil and police officers of the district, school children and public participated in the celebration.

CHURACHANDPUR: Churachandpur district joined the rest of the country in celebrating the momentous 73rd Independence Day with great pomp and ceremonial splendour at Lamka Public Ground, Churachandpur.

Hangkhanlian Valte, Agri, Vety &AH Minister hoisted the tri-colour and took salute of the marching contingents from 67 Parade contingents led by Shivanand Surve, SDPO/Churachandpur comprising of civil police, BSF, ex-servicemen, VDF, cadets of different NCC units and students.

Presentation of colourful cultural items by different troupes; presentation of awards to outstanding social workers, Govt employees and march past contingents marked the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Hangkhanlian Valte said that during these 72 years of India's Independence, there have been many changes.

"Today we commemorate the father of the Nation-Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Sardar Valabhai Patel among others, who played major roles in achieving India's Independence after a freedom struggle", he added.

Highlighting the schemes taken up during the past one year, Hangkhanlian pointed out that under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, 61,948 farmers have been registered under the scheme at present and about 36,363 small & marginal farmers had benefited as well.

The Minister stressed that, in Manipur, there are two such land holding system namely - revenue land and unsurvey hill land and that for identification of the unsurvey hill land, he urged the Govt of India to accept the certification made by the village chief, SDO and DC concerned for successful implementation of the scheme.

He assured that, under the crop insurance scheme 2019-20, 2144 farmers have been registered and for transforming jhum cultivation in the hill areas of Manipur, a project proposal had been submitted to the Central Govt for cultivation of maize and soyabeans at the cost of Rs 515 crore.

In the health sector, the first pulmonary care facility unit has been set up in the district hospital and a Health & Wellness Center was made functional as well, stated the Minister.

The Minister lauded the District Hospital in bagging the prestigious Health Kayakalp Award and also the District Administration for planning to organize the only women badminton tournament under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) .

On the education sector, under the initiative of the Chief Minister's 'School Fagat Hansi', all Government schools in 60 ACs will be developed as model schools and interestingly, Churachandpur Govt College will be commencing BEd classes from next session, conveyed the Minister.

At present, for improvement of drinking water for Churachandpur town from Khuga dam, a sum of Rs 22 crore has been earmarked which will hopefully cover 80 percent, asserted the Minister.

Emphasizing on road connectivity, he ensured that 70 percent black-topping of Churachandpur town-roads and culvert will be completed within this current year and reconstruction of Tipaimukh road from PS to Telsing bazar will be taken up shortly by the agencies concerned.

The Minister further appealed to the authorities, MTDC and the agencies concerned to complete the improvement of Lamka Public Ground, which is being financed by NEC, Shillong.

Stalls were also opened by different departments during the celebration.

Chairman of ADC, Churachandpur T Paukhanlian; Members from ADC; SP (Churachandpur) Amrita Sinha; DLOs, Army officials, BSF officials, chiefs and social activists attended the grand Independence Day celebration.

JIRIBAM: District administration Jiribam celebrated Independence Day at Jiribam Higher Secondary School with DC M Rajkumar as the chief guest.

He hoisted the tricolour and he along with the gathering sang the National anthem, reports our correspondent.

Speaking at the function, M Rajkumar stressed the importance of failure in the path to success while emphasizing that the freedom fighters did not win the war at first but it was only when overcoming many failures that they won the revolution/war.

As such, he appealed to all the students not to lose heart and keep working hard until they fulfil their destiny and dreams.

He urged all to reap the benefits of the welfare initiatives launched by the Government.

Maintaining that adequate resources are available in the district, he urged all to utilise the resources in a sustainable manner.

Students present in the function presented march-past, cultural activities and events while awards were presented to renowned/accomplished individuals of different departments in the district.

KANGPOKPI: Amidst light mizzle and misty sky, a large number of denizens joined the Independence Day celebration at the muddy Brigadier M Thomas Ground, where the celebration was observed under the aegis of the district administration, Kangpokpi.

Deputy Commissioner Lalithambigai K unfurled the tricolour with the tune of the National anthem on the background.

Later, the DC took salute of 34 marching contingents including contingents from Police, VDF, NCC, ASHA, ICDS, Fire Service, Ex-servicemen, differently-abled groups and several Government and private schools in the district.

The parade was commanded by DSP, Kangpokpi Sony Siemgosang Gangte.

The DC stated that for every Indian, August 15 is sacred and it's a celebration of sovereignty.

Freedom for us is a gift, a gift of the sacrifices, sleepless nights, brutal tortures and struggle bid by the forefathers.

Every Indian who does his or her job with sincerity and commitment, who are true to professional ethics, upholds the principle of the National freedom struggle.

"It is our duty as citizens to work with unity and purpose to ensure benefits of all Government policies reach all sections of the society, added the DC.

While sharing the achievements of several departments of the district in the previous year, the DC said that Kangpokpi district is at the door of great achievement and every denizen should become an agent of change in building a brighter future.

The celebration was well adorned by a number of thrilling cultural performances by various schools and local cultural troupes, which further enthralled the crowd.

A special issue of "Kangpokpi Today", published by DIO Kangpokpi was released on the occasion while awards and certificates of appreciation for outstanding service were also handed over to officials from different departments in the district.

VC, SH-ADC, Thangjakam Misao, CEO, SH-ADC, T Manihar, SP Kangpokpi Hemant Pandey and several police and civil officers participated in the celebration.

On the other hand, Independence Day was celebrated for the first time today at Champhai Sub-division of Kangpokpi District, where SDO/BDO, Champhai, Chunglenmang, who attended the function as dignitaries unfurled the tricolour making it a historic day for the people of the Sub-division.

TAMENGLONG: To pay tribute and remember all the freedom fighters who had made the ultimate sacrifices for the country, district administration Tamenglong celebrated the day at Lower Ground in Tamenglong District Headquarters.

Awangbou Newmai, MLA, Tamei (ST) AC, Hungyo Worsang, DC Tamenlong attended the function as dignitaries.

Awangbou Newmai, unfurled the National flag and took salute of march past contingent from Ringthing Hongchui, SDPO, Tamenglong Police Department.

Speaking on the occasion, Awongbou Newmai wished the people of Tamenglong and reminded the people to remember the struggles and hardships that the forefathers had to endure for freedom.

He advised the people of Tamenglong to draw inspiration and strength from the sacrifices of the freedom fighter.

He also highlighted various initiatives and achievements taken up by different departments in the district.

He also opined that although Tamenglong has 3 sub-divisions namely Tamenglong, Tamei and Tousem, it has been difficult to ensure proper governance to each and every corner of the district and despite the inadequate infrastructure and shortage of manpower in almost every department, the chief guest appreciated the efforts put in by the Chairman of District Council, members of District Council, DC, Superintendent of Police, ADM/CEO, Sub-Divisional Officers, DLOs in the development of the district.

District Information Office also released a Magazine titled "Tamenglong Voice".

Credentials certificate were also given to 35 Government officials of the district while Red blanket and sports materials were also distributed to the public of Tamenglong.

Later, a football exhibition match was also played between the DC-XI and SP-XI.

Tamenglong ADC Chairman, executive members of ADC, DLOs, civil society, NGOs attended the Independence day function with great enthusiasm.

TENGNOUPAL: Hundreds of people gathered to celebrate Independence Day with utmost joy and fervour at Tengnoupal Government High School Ground,Tengnoupal district.

Thounaojam Shyamkumar, Forest & Environment Minister hoisted the tricolour at the official function organised by district administration, Tengnoupal.

He took salute from the marching contingents of different schools, Manipur Police, Manipur Rifles and 12 Assam Rifles.

Speaking at the function, the Minister said that people should be proud of the country as it is the home to different communities.

Stating that the sacrifices made by the countrymen for India's independence cannot be forgotten, he maintained that people should be proud of the historic struggle of India's independence.

Urging the officials of the newly created district to submit any report on any problem and insufficiencies, he said the State Government is committed for overall development of the State.

He also presented awards to officers from different departments for their commendable service.

Meanwhile, saplings were presented to the dignitaries by the Forest Department as part of the environment conservation effort.

The function was also attended by H Rupachandra, DC Tengnoupal, Th Bikramjit, SP Tengnoupal, officials from the different State departments and personnel of 12 Assam Rifles.

Meanwhile, the day was also celebrated at Additional deputy Commissioner campus, organised by sub divisional administration Moreh with SDO I Dinesh Kumar as the chief guest.

THOUBAL: District administration Thoubal celebrated the 73rd Independence Day at Mini-Secretariat Complex, Thoubal.

Education Minister Th Radheshyam, unfurled the National flag and received salutes given by 21 parade contingents.

Speaking at the function, Th Radheshyam stated that although the country has achieved independence for 72 years, people still face numerous problems in terms of heath, water, children' education etc.

The present Government is leaving no stone unturned for a healthy and progressive society by taking up various schemes and programmes like CMHT, Go to village etc.

The objective of the Government is to go with the people hand in hand and bring development for all.

SENAPATI: N Kayisii, Tribals & Hill Areas Development Minister unfurled the National flag on the 73rd Independence Day celebration at Mini Stadium ground, Senapati.

He paid tribute and salute to the brave freedom fighters for their role in achieving an independent country.

Brave freedom fighters namely Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, Rani Lakshmibai, Chandrashekhar Azad, Mangal Pandey, Bhagat Singh, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Subhas Chandra Bose, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi had immensely contributed for the cause of the country.

He appealed to the people of Senapati, to wake up and march forward to build a better and improved district and to make it a place where everyone is respected with dignity and the nature and environment is well balanced and public properties are taken care of as their own.

Lakshay Sharma, IPS was the parade commander of 34 contingents consisting of students and security personnel who participated in the march-past.

Cultural dances and songs were also performed while red blankets were also distributed to the village chiefs and authorities apart from handing over commendation certificates to outstanding employees/officers.

UKHRUL: The 73rd Independence Day celebration was also held in Ukhrul in which PHED Minister L Dikho unfurled the tri-colour at Pakshi Ground Dungrei Hungpung, Ukhrul as the chief guest of the function.

Dikho lauded the people of the district for achieving the title of cleanest hill districts of Manipur in the 3rd State level Swachhta Award 2019 .

He mentioned that the State Government is keen to resolve the water crisis of the district by sanctioning more fund in water supply project and added that the Government is providing nutritional food for the children through Poshan Abhiyan scheme to ensure their well being.

The PM Kisan financial support scheme that provides Rs 6000 annually would benefit every farmers in the district, he said while adding that certain certificates like domicle, income are issued through common service centre to avoid inconveniences of the citizens.

The Minister also expressed that Ukhrul ADC is one of the best functioning autonomous district council as a result of the love and support of the people to the governing body.

As part of the celebration, school children displayed cultural and talent show, Assam Rifles performed pipe band show and Kendriya Vidyalaya students presented integration dance.

Certificate of appreciation were presented to the departments staff.

Over 55 contingents participated for the march pass competition, reports our correspondent.

Chairman, Ukhrul ADC Dr Yaronsho, Ngalung, Councillors, DC Joseph Pauline Kamson, SP Worngam Ningshen, Commandant 6th MR, and DLOs attended the function.

Meanwhile, SDO Jessami Sub-Division Chirom Somorendro Singh hoisted the National flag at Jessami village ground as well.

Six contingents participated for independence day parade and red blankets and sport items were distributed as a part of the observation.

Chandel: District Council Administration, Chandel also celebrated 73rd Independence Day at ADC Office, Monsang Pantha yesterday.

The celebratory function was attended by D Ringo Lamkang, Chairman ADC Chandel as chief guest.
