Imphal, August 16 2019:
The JAC formed in connection with the mysterious death of Ningthoujam Babysana has appealed to one and all to fully support the agitation initiated by the JAC to seek justice for the deceased.
A press release issued by the convenor in-charge of the JAC today further appealed to the people living in the vicinity of the bazar areas to organise sit in protest tomorrow.
On the other hand, it conveyed that the JAC's co-convenor Leishangthem Pratap, who was arrested during a protest demanding justice for Babysana, has vowed to undergo an indefinite hunger strike inside custody from tomorrow until and unless an amicable solution is reached between the JAC and the State Government and added that other arrested members of the JAC might follow suit soon.
On the other hand, North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) activists along with students from different parts of the North-East as well as other parts of the country organized a candle lit march at Arts Faculty of Delhi University today, condemning the attitude of the Manipur police administration in the death case of Babysana.
A press release issued by NEFIS mentioned that the police has so far been unable to crack the case and has caused anger among the people regarding its insensitive and apathetic attitude.
Instead of trying to solve the case, the police is deploying delaying tactics to let the public outcry subside.
It has even tried to divert public attention by using force on the protesters who were demanding justice for the victim, it alleged.
It continued that NEFIS believes the present incident is a result of the way in which private schools have been provided a free hand to operate in Manipur.
These private schools in the absence of Government regulations have been following unprincipled practices.
The Government has also abdicated its role in educating the masses through making Government schools better, it claimed demanding the culprits involved in the case to be immediately arrested and awarded strict punishment.
It also demanded a policy aimed at providing quality compulsory Government education from KG to PG.
Through the candle light march, NEFIS reiterated its determination to continue its struggle in the present case, till justice is provided to the victim.
