Barak section impairs Imphal-Jiribam highway

Imphal, August 16 2019:
Even though Imphal-Jiribam highway has improved considerably over the last couple of years, a very shabby section around Barak has been impairing the highway apart from impeding traffic flow.
After it took over the 222 Kms long highway, NHIDCL entrusted several sections of the highway to different companies, and the entire length of the highway has been black-topped except for a small section near Barak bridge which is less than one Km in length.
On account of the highly worn out conditions of Barak bridge and Makru bridge, vehicles travelling along the highway must stand in long queues waiting for their turns to cross the bridges, and this inconvenience has been compounded by the shabby condition of the short stretch near Barak bridge where many vehicles get stuck or tilted.
The Barak section has been lying in a very deplorable state since last year and it has not seen any change till date.
Water flowing from the hill slopes runs over the highway section rendering the particular section water-logged and quite muddy.
On the other, the ongoing construction works of new Barak and Makru bridges have achieved little progress.
