Imphal, October 14, 2009:
The Senior Citizens for Society (SCS) have observed that the class boycott stir of students in support of the agitations and demands of the Apunba Lup would greatly disadvantage the generation next while appealing both the government and the agitating parties to soften their stands and end the confrontation in the interest of the people.
Interacting with media persons today at the residence of N Binoy, the president of SCS located at Nagamapal here, the senior citizens observed that the government should sincerely and justly investigate the Khwairamband incident.
They demanded that the case should be handed over to neutral agency like the CBI and to deliver punishment against the guilty culprits according to law.
The senior citizens have also demanded the government to release all the detained Apunba Lup leaders including the ones detained under NSA.
The detained leaders if they are not connected with other major crimes should be released unconditionally.
They also demanded the government to immediately stop hunting for the Apunba Lup leaders and stop fake encounter killings.
At the same time, the senior citizens have also felt that it would be prudent if the agitating students' bodies decide to withdraw their agitation if and when the government gives its nod to fulfill the points raised by the senior citizens.
They pledged that the SCS is ready to help in bringing an amicable solution to any issue arising in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, secretary of the SCS, Khaidem Mani said boycotting classes is a great lost to the society while adding that taking step in the interest of the people would be a blessing for the state.
General secretary of the SCS, Prof L Sadananda said it is the democratic right of the people to stage protest and raise slogan against any policy and programme.
He said, the class boycott for over a month would be a great lost to the society.
Urging the government to bring an amicable solution to the ongoing impasse, president of SCS, N Binoy also said that the people will be the loser in boycotting classes.
He feels that the deadlock will never be broken if the two opposite parties soften their stands.
He said, the government is the law maker while the police are the law enforcer and protector.
Both the two entities could never be law breakers.
They have to face the law if they are guilt.
