Imphal, May 25 2025:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang has stated that it stands firm in its decision not to engage in talks with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) .
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Nando Luwang said that MHA has altered its strategy, now intending to engage with Kuki-Zo militant group leaders under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact, after meeting leaders of various Meitei Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) .
Saying the SoO pact's officially tenure ended on February 28, 2024, he claimed that the Government of India has succumbed to pressure from Kuki-Zo militant groups to revive the agreement (SoO) .
He also said that MHA officials have been reaching out to AMUCO to participate in the May 27 talks, but AMUCO has been insisting on the withdrawal of the SoO pact, citing the involvement of Kuki-Zo militant groups in illegal activities and the presence of illegal immigrants within their ranks.
The Government of India's decision to hold talks with Kuki-Zo militant groups, despite their consistent violations of the SoO pact, undermines the Government's claim of working towards resolving the crisis Nando Luwang charged.
Stating that extending the SoO pact would prevent operations against Kuki-Zo militant groups, he added that such an extension of the expired agreement would be detrimental to the interests of the people of Manipur.
Participating in the separate talks held by the MHA might ultimately lead to a joint agreement between Meitei CSOs and Kuki-Zo militant groups and pave the way for an extension of the SoO pact, he cautioned and reiterated that AMUCO will not participate in the May 27 talks.
