Imphal, March 24 2009:
Asserting that MP Meinya did not utter a single word when another MP from the State spoke for disintegration of Manipur on the floor of the Parliament, MPP leaders have questioned the undisclosed faith of AICC high command in Dr Mienya to nominate him again as their Lok Sabha candidate.
Speaking to media persons at the MPP office here today, Legislature Wing leader of the party O Joy said that he was surprised on hearing that Congress ticket has been given to Meinya.
On July 22, 2008, while taking the vote of confidence for the UPA Government, Outer MP Mani Charenamei voted in favour of the UPA Government stating that the UPA leaders assured him to change their common minimum programme and that the territorial boundary of the North East would be re-examined.
To this, Inner MP Dr Meinya did not react, Joy asserted while questioning the faith of AICC high command in Dr Mienya.
Joy also asked if there was any hidden agenda behind nominating Dr Meinya for the second time.
At the time of Assembly elections in Nagaland, there were some points in the Congress manifesto which posed threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur.
MPP raised the matter in the State Assembly and sought omission of these points.
But this motion was opposed by the ruling parties-Congress and CPI, Joy reminded.
The MPP leader further observed that Manipur is facing drought as most of the rivers have dried up.
He also accused the incumbent Government's alleged misplaced policy for the inability to provide water to the public by using the barrage built in Imphal river.
MPP president Dr L Chandramani remarked that the recent abolition of a non-Congress Government in Meghalaya and imposition of President's Rule in the State was nothing but the Congress party demeaning democracy.
The Governor interfering in the work of the Speaker and recommending PR and subsequent imposition of PR by the UPA Government was against rules, alleged Chandramani saying that the MPP condemned the manoeuvre.
He also demanded that the popular ministry should be restored in Meghalaya.
MPP has been campaigning since the Assembly elections of 2007 to repeal the draconian AFSPA from Manipur.
However, the two MPs from Manipur did not speak a single word in the Parliament towards this end, Chandramani noted.
This time people need to study all these points, he said adding that the incident of Manorama should not be lost from the minds of the people.
MPP candidate Prof N Mohendro said that the upcoming Parliamentary election is not an ordinary one but the beginning of a turning point.
The primary duties of an MP is not construction of community halls or crematoriums.
An MP should work to extract maximum from the Union lists in order to bring development in the State.
Prof Mohendro said that he would fight in the Parliament against the violence and harassments being suffered by the people of Manipur.
MLA RK Anand alleged that Dr Meinya has been given Congress ticket for raising no objection to the demand for Naga integration.
He further exuded that MPP can bring about a revolution in Manipur if their candidate is elected.
