NFR team calls on CM, expediting work stressed Sights set on Mar 2014

Imphal, September 23 2011:
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today held a meeting with officials of Northern Frontier Railway (NFR) and discussed about expediting the railway track laying work from Jiribam to Imphal via Tupul.
An official source informed that the high level meeting presided by the Chief Minister was attended by Transport Minister K Ranjit, Chief Secretary DS Poonia, Commisioner Home Binod Kishpota, NFR General Manager (Constructions) Vijayakant, top-ranking police officers and relevant officials of Transport Department.
During the meeting, the NFR officials assured that the track laying work from Jiribam to Tupul can be completed by March 2014 .
The NFR officials stated that works for boring tunnels at 15 different locations have been awarded.
For 13 other tunnels, due process for awarding the works would be completed within next month.
The railway bridge which would be built over Barak river would be 145 metres high.
Once completed, this will earn the distinction of being the highest railway bridge in the world.

On their part, the State Government gave the assurance that construction work of all major and minor bridges which would link the railway line would be initiated once the rainy season is over.
The State Government also promised all necessary assistance to NFR in the track laying work.
Further, the State Government declared that one battalion of Manipur Rifles would be assigned to give security cover to the railway work in addition to one battalion of CRPF sanctioned by the Union Home Ministry.
Though the rainy season is not yet over, tunnel boring work is going on in full swing.
Notably, the railway line is targeted to reach Imphal by 2016 .
