Imphal, July 19 2012:
With regard to the persistent demand to enforce Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur, Chief Minister O Ibobi has called upon the people to wait for the Centre's response to the State Assembly's private member resolution passed in favour of extending Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873 to Manipur.
Talking to media persons before casting his vote for the presidential election at Assembly complex today, Ibobi said, "The private member resolution has not been sent to the Centre as yet.
Let's wait for the Centre's response after sending it" .
He also reminded about the Home Ministry's earlier intimation which said that ILPS was not within the purview of the State.
Entry and movement of foreigners in Manipur without passports and visas can be checked by the State Government but movement of Indians in and out of the State cannot be prohibited, Ibobi stated.

Noting that the small valley of Manipur has been thickly populated, Ibobi highlighted the need to use the existing space in a very judicious manner and people must encourage the concept of peaceful co-existence.
On being asked about appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries, Ibobi stated that a few Parliamentary Secretaries would be appointed based on genuine necessity.
He further informed that the particular Bill was awaiting approval of the Governor.
