10 more Police Stations to be set up

Imphal, July 19 2012:
Along with construction of the Police Headquarters at Mantripukhri, 10 new Police Stations would be established in different parts of the state, Home Minister Gaikhangam has informed.
Addressing media persons today, Gaikhangam said that the state government is trying its level best to improve the condition of Manipur Police.
As there is the need to set up more Police stations in different parts of the state, the government has decided to open 10 more Police stations.
Stating that these Police Stations would have not less than 50 personnel, Gaikhangam observed that less police personnel in a Police Station hampers proper functioning of the station and at times, it becomes insecure to get the police station equip with weapons.
Gaikhangam further informed that the present building of Manipur Police Headquarter at Babupara is outdated and not in tune with the changing time.
So, a new Police Headquarter would be constructed at Mantripukhri very soon.
For this, 4 acres of land has been marked near the Tasar farm.
The Home Minister noted that the Manipur Central Jail is a very old jail having deep connections with the history of Manipur.
So, the state government is considering protecting and preserving it.
There is also plan to open rehabilitation centres inside the jail, though it seems not feasible at the moment.
Gaikhangam assured that there would not be any sort of mishandling in the process of recruitment of police personnel through sports quota.
The relevant documents would be thoroughly checked before the final recruitment.
The results of the written test for the posts in Mahila Battalion would also be declared very soon.
He also gave the assurance of look into the unwanted issues creeping up every now and then in Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council.
