CM warns against provocative speeches
Source: The Sangai Express / DIPR

Imphal, August 18 2022: Without mentioning any name in particular, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has sent a strong warning to all the associations to practise decency while discussing the affairs of the State.

Claiming that a particular organisation issuing a hate statement last night was rather unfortunate, the Chief Minister added that the Cabinet might initiate legal action against the organisation, apart from banning it if they do things which are unacceptable.

The Chief Minister made the statement during a Sadbhavana Diwas held at the Banquet Hall of the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles today.

Speaking as the chief guest of the observance, N Biren continued that the hate statement was circulated widely on social media.

Saying that he directed the SPs concerned to remove the statement from social media platforms and to prevent media houses from publishing it, the Chief Minister urged the people to exercise their freedom of expression sensibly without harming the interest of the State.

He also urged all the panellists of TV shows and Editors of all media houses to give their opinions and publish news based on issues without affecting the morality of the society.

Sadbhavana Diwas is observed every year on August 20, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi.

However, this year, the Diwas was observed today as 20th August falls on Saturday which is a closed holiday for Government offices and 19th August too is a Gazetted holiday on account of Janmashtami festival.

The theme of Sadbhavana is to promote National integration and communal harmony among people of all religions, languages and regions.

N Biren Singh maintained that the motto of the present Government is to protect the lives and property of the general public.

Continuing that Manipur is like a mini-India where people from different communities have been residing together for the last many years, he urged all to phase out all differences and march forward together to make one Manipur within one India.

Stating that the objective of Sadbhavana Diwas is to promote National integration and communal harmony, the Chief Minister expressed that observation of the same is very important for a country like India which is home to different communities.

He further expressed his desire to make the observance more meaningful with every citizen following its basic theme in the real sense.

Raising concern over some people making hate comments on social media and other platforms which can create tension among the people, the Chief Minister appealed to the public to air their grievances on the right forum so as to solve it at the earliest.

The Chief Minister also thanked the people for supporting the developmental works taken up by the Government.

Forest and Environment Minister Thongam Biswajit recalled the thoughts and ideals of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi.

He continued that the State Government under the leadership of N Biren Singh had always worked to bring equal development in both the hill and valley areas through various initiatives.

The Government had left no stone unturned to bridge the development gap across the State and promote the aged old relationship shared among different communities, he added.

The Minister stressed that misunderstanding and mistrust among communities could be redressed through dialogues so as to ensure peaceful coexistence.

During the observation, the Chief Minister led the other dignitaries and officials in taking the solemn pledge to work for the emotional oneness and harmony of all the people of India regardless of caste, region, religion or language and to resolve all differences through dialogue and constitutional, means without resorting to violence.

Cabinet Ministers, Member of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and senior civil and police officials also attended the programme, among others.

Artistes of Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev performed the opening and closing song as a part of the observance.
