Imphal, July 09 2023:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang has claimed that there will be no peace in Manipur until and unless the Government takes up necessary actions against Kuki militants.
Addressing a public convention on 'Burning crisis of Manipur' at Sagolband Tera Keithel today, Nando Luwang continued that the problem in Manipur is caused by Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement and Kuki militants.
Saying that seeking peace by sidelining the core issue would not yield any result, the AMUCO president maintained that the Government needs to exercise its authority to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.
The battle being fought is not to uplift the living standard ofMeeteis alone but to safeguard the unity and integrity of Manipur, he said and added that all people of Manipur should come out to protect Manipur.
"It is the people living in the periphery of valley districts who are at the forefront to safeguard the State and we must acknowledge their contribution," he added.
Professor Naorem Joykumar of History Department, Manipur University said it is very unfortunate that the Centre and the Manipur Government have not been taking up any concrete action to control the violence in Manipur.
He then appealed to the Government to expeditiously carry out the peace process.
