Imphal paralysed for second day on the trot

On the 2nd day of Arambai Tenggol's 10-day shutdown, bandh supporters blocked roads in different parts of the State bringing normal life to a standstill.
The shutdown was imposed against the arrest of Arambai Tenggol fighting commander Asem Kanan by CBI.
Arambai Tenggol has announced via social media that the 10-day shutdown will go on.
Essential services, media, medical emergencies and people attending religious functions will be exempted from the bandh.
AT has urged bandh supporters and AT members to follow the exemption guideline.
Bandh supporters along Imphal-Moreh Road stopped commuters and made them turn back at Kyamgei, Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai and Singjamei Waikhom Leikai.
At Tera Keithel along NH-37, security personnel, essential service workers, people attending religious events and others were made to take alternate routes.
Roads were also blocked at Checkon in Imphal East district.
Last night, shutdown supporters blocked the road at many places between Keishampat and Kwakeithel.
Security personnel fired tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse the crowd.
Bandh supporters also broke the windshield of a car carrying media persons at Khagempalli yesterday night.
Meanwhile, a motorcycle was set ablaze at Kwakeithel.
At Khurai Lamlong, security forces fired tear gas shells and mock bombs at protesters tonight to break up the crowd.
From Singjamei to Moirangkhom, womenfolk stepped out of their homes and shouted slogans in protest.
The shutdown also affected trade and commerce as markets in Imphal and Greater Imphal area including Khwairamband Keithel wore a deserted look.
Shops, banks, schools and private establishments remained closed.
Similarly, the effect of the shutdown was widely felt in other districts such as Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching.
Traffic volume was significantly reduced, however flight services were not disrupted.
