Senapati, Kangpokpi reel under non-stop rain

Senapati/Kangpokpi, May 31 2025:
More than 1,000 households that are in the low-lying areas have been affected by the flood that occurred last night at Senapati.
Two wooden bridges and two hanging bridges have reportedly been washed away along with two cars that were parked in front of residential houses.
A 407 Tata also got washed away and it was not found till the time of filing this report.
Although no human casualty has been reported, many houses have been washed away by the flood.
The most affected areas in Senapati district headquarters include Viewland Colony, River Colony, Bridge Colony, Yaopao Colony, Church Road Colony and Old Monday Market Colony where the families fled for safety in the middle of the night yesterday.
Affected families mentioned that the water level rose at an instant that they could not take out any of their belongings but had to run out for safety.
With several electric poles uprooted and swept away by the flood, Senapati district is currently without power supply.
Senapati district administration has set up temporary shelter homes at ADC conference hall and ADC guest house.
Information received from the CEO, ADC, Senapati mentioned that some 80 persons have been enrolled at temporary shelter homes at ADC conference hall.
Six other community halls in and around the district headquarters have also been designated as temporary shelter homes.
Some portions of NH-2 were affected by mudslides on May 30 night, completely cutting off the highway but the debris were cleared on Saturday early morning and free flow of traffic commenced thereafter.
Senapati district witnessed low rate of rainfall on May 31 .
Kangpokpi: Kanggui stream overflowed and its banks breached just past midnight on May 30 thereby submerging the entire locality of Zonlhing Veng.
In a matter of hours, over 60 households were almost submerged by the flood waters, leaving behind a trail of devastation and despair.
It was the second such calamity in recent memory - but this time, the fury of nature far eclipsed the damage seen during last year's Cyclone Remal.
Nearly every household in Zonlhing Veng was submerged, with many homes either half-destroyed or teetering on the edge of collapse.
As the water levels rose, Airtel and Jio networks went down moments after the deluge began, thus plunging Kangpokpi town in a complete communication breakdown.
Helpline numbers provided by the district administration became unreachable, and residents were cut off from authorities and loved ones just when they needed help most.
Electricity was also knocked out, compounding the suffering of those already reeling from loss.
Several other wards - Lamdil Veng (Ward No 5), Ngambom Veng (Ward No 8), Zaphal Veng (Ward No 9), and Khupting Veng (Ward No 11) - suffered extensive damage.
In Zaphal Veng, the river scoured the base of a house until half of it dangled over the water - on the brink of collapse.
Similar scenes unfolded in Ngambom Veng.
At daybreak, Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari rushed to the affected areas, personally assessing the destruction.
Earthmovers were deployed to clear debris from the Kanggui stream and reopen vital passageways.
Multiple minor landslides were also reported along National Highway 2, particularly between Daili and Yaikongpao.
Authorities acted swiftly to ensure that traffic could continue to move, albeit cautiously.
The torrential rain which the State has been experiencing over the last few days and subsequent flooding have caused significant damage across the State with reports of residential places, roads and Government offices flooding.
