Biren gives sanity call, dashes to New Delhi

Former chief minister N Biren Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba on Monday left for New Delhi on board an Indigo flight at 1.45 pm.
It is learnt that both Biren and Sanajaoba have been summoned by Union home minister Amit Shah to discuss the tense situation besieging the state following the arrest of Arambai Tenggol leader Asem Kanan and others, and subsequent widespread protest.
Before leaving for the national capital, N Biren, who along with parliamentarian Sanajaoba arrived at the Imphal airport around 12.55 pm, told media persons that he will update the central leadership on the prevailing situation in the state.
As Manipur is currently passing through a very critical phase everyone should maintain calmness and collectively take wise decisions at the right moment, he said and appealed to the people not to be swayed by emotion and anger but work together with unified strength.
Noting gravity of the situation and appealing to the people of Manipur to exercise caution and restraint, he said: "I am going to Delhi with MP Sanajaoba to update central leaders on the current developments in the state.
This is a very sensitive time, and I urge all - including our mothers and brothers - to be extremely careful with their actions and words".
Biren called for peace, urging communities to abandon violence and come together in unity.
"We must act with collective responsibility.
Let us not be swayed by emotions.
Instead, we should walk together cautiously and work toward lasting peace and progress," he stressed.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Biren added, "We will try to meet all possible central leaders and present a full picture of the crisis.
Our aim is to seek an early resolution that ensures the welfare of our indigenous communities".
According to N Biren, he will meet relevant central leaders and pressurise them to bring solution to the prevailing situation at the earliest possible.
He further appealed to the people to shun violence and set foot on the right path to achieve goal for well-being of entire indigenous people of the state.
Meanwhile, a reliable source informed that both N Biren and Sanajaoba Leishemba upon reaching New Delhi are likely to meet Amit Shah late Monday evening or early Tuesday morning.
Notably, widespread protests erupted in the valley districts from June 7 evening to denounce the arrest of Asem Kanan.
The protests intensified with the 10-day long shutdown and many people suffered injuries in the protests.
Another source informed that both Biren and Sanajaoba were called to the national capital for an emergency consultation led by Home Minister Amit Shah.
The meeting is expected to focus on restoring law and order, addressing growing public grievances, and discussing the political roadmap to ensure stability in the state.
