Imphal, March 03 2024:
A goods laden truck bound for Imphal was forcefully stopped at gunpoint by miscreants in between Awang Sekmai and Maharabi on February 2 and white salt poured into the fuel tank of the vehicle, said the Akhil Bhartiya Transport Association (ABTA), condemning the incident.
ABTA, in a statement, said that the miscreants poured the salt inside the vehicle's tank after snatching the key from the driver and the same was distressing.
Saying that the miscreants may have been trying to loot the truck in a deserted area, ABTA added that such heinous acts have no place in a democratic society.
Such incidents have become a daily routine along Imphal-Dimapur highway, the association rued while cautioning that transporters may totally boycott coming to Manipur if selective targeting of transporters doesn't stop.
The selective targeting of transport vehicles may also tarnish the image and reputation of North East in general and Manipur in particular, it added.
Cautioning that things will become catastrophic if transporters boycott coming to Manipur, ABTA urged the State Government to take up prompt action against the culprits involved in the incident.
