The government of Manipur has decided to launch the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) for the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in the state.
The RSBY, the health insurance scheme was launched by the government of India in October, 2007 .
The state government will implement the scheme with state's 10 percent and 90 percent from central fund even though the centre will contribute 75 per cent of the annual premium and the state a share of 25 percent for the particular scheme.
A cabinet meeting held late Tuesday evening took the decision to extend the scheme, a government source said Wednesday adding that state labour department will be the implementing agency of the scheme.
The government has also earmarked Rs 30 lakhs for the preparation of the smart cards for the beneficiaries.
First priority of obtaining the smart cards on the start of the implementation will be given to the labour class people of below the poverty line registered with the state labour department, the source disclosed.
The government today formally launched the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana that is the health insurance scheme for BPL families whereas the centre is all set to contribute 75 per cent of the annual premium and the state a share of 25 percent.
The scheme which has already already been launched in 21 states of the country provides for a benefit of upto 30,000 rupees to all Below Poverty Line (BPL) workers.
Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Bihar, Uttrakhand, Kerala, Punjab, Chhatisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Goa, Assam, Orissa and Tripura had already availed the benefits of the scheme.
Till March 2009, Smart Cards have been issued to the 31,05,607 beneficiaries across the country.

RSBY has been launched by Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India to provide health insurance coverage for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
The objective of RSBY is to provide protection to BPL households from financial liabilities arising out of health shocks that involve hospitalization.
Beneficiaries under RSBY are entitled to hospitalization coverage up to Rs.30,000/- for most of the diseases that require hospitalization.
The government has even fixed the package rates for the hospitals for a large number of interventions.
