Awareness programs on substance abuse conducted

Kakching/Thoubal, November 15 2024:
Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Thoubal in collaboration with NSS Units of YK College and Polestar College organised 'One-Day Education and Awareness Programs on Drug DeAddiction and Substance Abuse' on November 14 and 15 at YK College Wangjing and Polestar College Wabagai respectively for Thoubal and Kakching districts.
As per a press release, the program aims to train 50 youths between the ages of 15 to 29, on harmful effects of drug use, promote healthy alternatives, develop skills to resist peer pressure and build resilience, break down stigma and strengthen community action by these trained youths, who will carry out door-to-door awareness activities to spread this message to a larger audience.
The Thoubal district drug awareness program was conducted along with observance of NYKS Foundation Day on November 14 at YK College Wangjing presided by Professor S Giri, Principal YK College; Associate Professor P Somerandra Singh; HoD English Department, YK College; Assistant Professor E Surchandra Singh, NSS PO Unit-I YK College; Assistant Professor N Indusekhar, NSS PO Unit-II YK College; Akoijam Jiten Singh, Counsellor, Health Care Centre Thoubal and Khonsam Lokendro Singh, DACYP NYK Thoubal.
The program was kicked off with a floral tribute on the portrait of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and followed by seminars on 'Understanding Drug and Substance Abuse' and 'The Power of Choice' and closed with a No Drugs pledge by the volunteers and participants.
Meanwhile, the Kakching district drug awareness program was conducted along with observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas today at Polestar College Wabagai.
The event was attended by Assistant Professor Labuktongbam Devala Devi, HoD Zoology Dept Polestar College, Assistant Professor Dr Ng Jadantakumar Singh, HoD Political Science Dept Polestar College, NSS PO Unit-I Polestar College, W Birla Singh, Assistant Secretary Polestar College; Khonsam Lokendro Singh, DACYP NYK Thoubal; Akoijam Jiten Singh, Counsellor, Health Care Centre Thoubal and Chingangbam Basanta Singh, DPM NHM Thoubal.
The program opened with a floral tribute on the portrait of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and highlighted the contribution of tribal freedom fighters to the freedom movement.
The event closed with a No Drugs pledge by the volunteers and participants.
Additionally, NYK Thoubal will also be organising a district level Yuva Utsav (Youth Festival) tentatively on November 28 at Waikhom Mani Girls College.
