MMAB condemns barbaric bomb attack, demands urgent action

Imphal, April 09 2026: The Manipuri Meitei Association, Bangalore (MMAB), has strongly condemned a "barbaric projectile bomb attack" that occurred in the early hours of April 7, 2026, in Tronglaobi.

The inhumane act tragically claimed the lives of a 5-month-old infant and a 5-year-old child.

Their mother remains critically injured, fighting for her life in the hospital.

The victims are the family members of a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel currently deployed in service of the nation.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, MMAB described the attack as part of a "repeated and systematic" pattern of violence by armed Kuki militant groups, aimed at disrupting peace and destabilizing law and order in the region.

The association highlighted that these attacks appear targeted rather than random, aimed at instilling fear among the Meitei population in peripheral areas.

The MMAB also raised serious concerns and demanded an independent inquiry into allegations that local residents approaching nearby CRPF personnel for protection after the attack were met with indiscriminate firing, allegedly resulting in the deaths of three civilians and injuries to several others.

This conduct, if verified, raises questions about the "neutrality, and accountability of forces deployed to protect citizens" .

In response to the escalating violence and perceived security lapses, the MMAB has put forth six key demands to the Government of India for immediate and decisive action: time-bound investigation into the Tronglaobi attack to bring perpetrators to justice; reassessment of the current security framework to ensure effective civilian protection; review of leadership, specifically calling for the accountability of Kuldeip Singh, head of the Unified Command; immediate and comprehensive disarmament of all illegal militant groups; strengthened security deployment with clear directives to safeguard innocent lives; and an impartial inquiry into the alleged firing on civilians by security forces.

The MMAB reiterated its appeal for swift and decisive action to restore peace, uphold justice, and rebuild public confidence, emphasizing that the continuing cycle of violence demands urgent national attention.
