Attacks on security forces can be curbed if AR acts: Committee

Imphal, January 03 2024: Attacks by Kuki militants can be curbed and normalcy may be restored in Moreh only when 5 Assam Rifles and State security forces work together in sync, said Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims, Moreh today.

Leishangthem Inaocha Meetei, chairman of Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims condemned the attack carried out by well armed Kuki militants on security forces yesterday at Moreh.

Personnel of the State security forces and Border Security Force came under heavy fire by Kuki militants at an area near 5 Assam Rifles camp at Moreh yesterday.

However, the 5 Assam Rifles did not engage the Kuki militants which had fired bullets and bombs at the State security forces and BSF personnel.

This was very unfortunate and unbecoming of the Assam Rifles, said Inaocha.

The attack yesterday occurred near Chavangphai and S Moljang village.

Five Special Commandos and three personnel of BSF were injured in the attack.

Even as the attacks on State security forces have continued, the Assam Rifles, if it is willing, could stop the attacks easily, Inaocha said.

He accused the Assam Rifles of remaining a mute spectator regarding attacks carried out by Kuki militants on State forces and BSF.

The Assam Rifles have the knowledge about locations of all the camps of the Kuki militants.

If they act in sync with the State security forces and BSF, the Kuki militants' attacks can be thwarted and curbed, he said.

He continued that the Border Security Force should be given the task to guard Manipur and India's border with Myanmar.

Inaocha condemned the "inability" of the Government of India to curb violence and restore peace in Manipur.

The violent crisis that erupted on May 3, 2023 has completed eight months.

However, the Central Government has not acted proactively to end the crisis, Inaocha said, asking if the Centre is waiting for the MP elections to be completed before it acts.

The targeted attacks on State forces by Kuki militants can be curbed with ease if the Assam Rifles is willing to act and restore peace in the border town.

The State Government must talk with the Central Government and urge it to instruct the 5 Assam Rifles to act in sync with the State forces, Inaocha said.

The Assam Rifles have in time helped the State forces, but it should further improve the coordination and act in sync, he said.
