Senapati, October 27 2024:
The Zeme community has taken a strong stand to protect and safeguard all Zeme ancestral land and resources at all cost irrespective of administrative boundaries in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.
This decision was taken on Thursday (Oct 24) at a meeting held at Makuilongdi village in Senapati district.
It was the second executive meeting of the Zeme Council North East India (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland).
The decision, it said, is a need of the hour when there are land issues far and wide and time has come for all Zemes to unite and make a concrete stand to protect the only treasure they have.
ZCNEI president Isamrangbe Pame in his address stated that the Zeme community has been blessed with a vast and fertile land, rich in resources, passed down by their forefathers since time immemorial.
He emphasized that it is now the duty of young people to protect and make this land more resourceful and productive.
Along with the resolution for land protection, the ZCNEI also took decisions to celebrate common Zeme festivals, promote unity and shared heritage, promote Zeme common literature, preserve the community's history and culture, establish a strong, unified Zeme customary law, catering to the collective interests of the community.
Noted personalities including Zeme Naga Council president Apung Daime, Zeme Council Nagaland president A Earnest and Zeme Council Assam president Namke Newme and leaders of federating units attended the event.
A book of folk songs 'Paupaileu' was also released during the meeting by ZCNEI president Isamrangbe.
A minute of silence was also observed paying tribute to the past leaders.
Four newly appointed executive members were also inducted to the team of ZCNEI.
