Imphal, June 08, 2013:
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has said that the Centre had asked the State government to think for the Nation when the issue of Inner Line Permit (ILP) System was raised as per the resolution of State Legislative Assembly.
He was speaking as Chief Guest at a one-day political conference for minorities held at Congress Bhavan here today.
Ibobi further said that the State government knows the aspirations of the people and so a resolution was taken in State Legislative Assembly to press the Centre for implementation of ILP System in the State.
However, the Centre had advised the State government to review the resolution of the Legislative Assembly as many other states have also been making the same demand in disregard of collective welfare of the Nation.
He cautioned that the State government would not encourage any form of agitation which affects the Indian citizens from other states.
The State government is strongly against any form of anti-national activity in connection with the ongoing agitation over ILP demand.
Ibobi appealed to the organizations involved in the demand for ILP System to have dialogues with the Government rather carrying out agitations.
The State government has no problem in making collective demand for ILP System to the Centre along with the organizations and other political parties, he asserted.
Chief Minister further contended that banning entry of non-locals to the State is not a rightful step and so the organizations concerned should refrain from such anti-national activities.
The State government is vigilant to check influx of foreigners at Jirbam and even at Moreh.
It would take up intense measures to detect any illegal foreigner in the State, he reiterated.
Dwelling on the welfare of minorities in the State, Chief Minister announced that the Central government has approved Rs.300 crores for the welfare and development of minorities in the State.
He also expressed his desire to uplift the status of women in Meitei-Pangal community on par with their male counterparts in terms of education and employment.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam reiterated that the Congress Party have secured 42 seats in the Assembly Election with massive support of the people amidst threats and intimidations from the anti-social elements.
The conference was also attended by Secretary of All India Minority Cell Aneesh Durani, Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya, PHE Minister I Hemochandra, Agriculture Minister Abdul Nasir, Parliamentary Secretary Md Amin Shah, Chairman of WAKF Board Md Fazur Rahim and other leaders of Congress Party.
