Imphal, June 08, 2013:
Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Manipur has extended the ban on entry of non-Manipuris in the localities till June 15.A statement issued by JCILPS said that the implementation of Inner Line Permit System is very much essential to check the dominance of non-locals over the indigenous people.
The non-locals have captured almost all commercial activities in the State with strong influence even in politics.
The ILPS is the only tool that can safeguard the indigenous people from getting engulfed by the non-locals.
It further mentioned that people need to be sensitized on the issue of ILP System.
Other northeastern states like Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh have implemented ILP System to protect and safeguard the interests of their indigenous people, but the State government is very much indifferent to this issue even if the Central government has rightly considered the demand for ILPS.
The JCILPS further lauded the efforts of women vendors of Ema Keithel for their proposed sit-in-protest to be held on June 9 to press the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State.
