Kakching, June 02 2012:
Four days after the media report on Myanmar Government's June 10 deadline to Manipur based UG outfits to pack up their camps from its soil; the Assam Rifles troops manning the porous Indo-Myanmar international border have reportedly stepped up vigil along the border to tackle the situation.
Replying to questions raised by media persons on the sideline of a cultural tableau exhibition at the headquarters of 26 Sector Assam Rifles, Pallel, 50 kms south of India, this afternoon, Major General UK Gurung, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), said the Assam Rifles troops have been alerted along the International border between India and Myanmar.
Manipur shares about 360 km long porous international boundary with Myanmar.
Earlier inaugurating the exhibition, the Major General accompanied by other subordinate officials and their lives inspected the cultural tableaus put up by various village level bodies under the aegis of six different Assam Rifles battalions of 26 Sector.
Sharing his view over organizing such cultural festivals in Chandel district, Major General UK Gurung maintained that it is just the beginning and the troops would be organizing similar festivals in other areas as well in due course of time.
"People of Manipur want peace and we're here to facilitate this.
Once the peace prevails development will take place.
People from outside will come," the IGAR (South) added.
