Cancer Awareness / Detection Programme, Health Camps held

An Awareness cum Detection Programme of Cervical & Breast Cancer along with Free Mega Health Camp was conducted today at Lainingthou Pureiromba Sanglen in Lamlai, Imphal East on Sunday.
It was organised by Lions Club of Imphal Leimarol, Lions Club International District 322D in collaboration with City Hospital & Research Center, Chingmeirong and BJYM Lamlai Mandal, 8-Lamlai AC.
The event as graced by prominent dignitaries, including Lamlai AC MLA, Khongbantabam Ibomcha Singh; BJYP Lamlai Mandal president, S Chingkheihunba Meitei; BJP Lamlai Mandal president, L Shyam Singh; Lions Club of Imphal Leimarol president, Kh Suniti Devi; and Bijoya Mutum of Lions Club of Imphal Leimarol.
Dr T Bilashini Devi, Lions Club of Imphal Leimarol, DC, District 322D also attended the event as a resource person.
Speaking on the occasion, Kh Ibomcha said that the Mega Health Camp will be hugely beneficial to the people of Lamlai and surrounding areas.
He asserted that most people in rural areas ignore routine health check-ups, unless and until the doctor suggests them to do so.
"Regular health checkups are essential for maintaining overall well-being and detecting any potential health issues at an early stage", said the MLA while appealing to the people to get health check-ups regularly.
Kh Ibomcha also shared that early detection of cancer significantly increases the likelihood of successful treatment, reduces treatment complexity, and minimizes side effects.
Dr T Bilashini Devi shared that breast cancer and cervical cancer are the most common forms of cancer in women, accounting for more deaths in women than any other cancer in the world.
"Cancer screening tests are an important tool to combat cancer-related morbidity and mortality", she added.
During the camp, a medical team provided free health examination and consultation along with medicines to the people from Lamlai and surrounding areas.
RIMS
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal on Sunday successfully organised Swachhta Health Camps at two locations namely Senior Citizen Home Kongba in Imphal East and Mongsangei Old Age Home in Imphal West.
According to a release issued by RIMS, the initiative coincided with the International Day of Older Persons aimed to provide essential medical care to senior citizens.
Approximately 40 senior citizens received free medical treatment from a dedicated team of doctors across various departments, including ENT, Eye Care, Clinical Psychology, PMR, and Physiology.
Free medicines were also distributed to patients.
At the event, Prof Y Govindaraj Singh, Nodal Officer, SAP/Kaya Kalp 2024-25, said that the health camp was conducted as part of a broader outreach initiative by RIMS, Imphal under Special Campaign 4.0.He also encouraged seniors to reach out for future health concerns.
Awareness about organ donation was also given to the participants.
Gifts and food items were also distributed to the elderly during the event, further enhancing the spirit of care and community support.
The initiative underscored the commitment of RIMS doctors, staff and students to improving the health and well-being of senior citizens.
It aligned with the overarching objectives of the Swachhta Action Plan, promoting health, hygiene and cleanliness within the community.
