CPI endorses UCM's October 31 rally, questions NFSA status in State

Imphal, October 17 2018: Manipur State Council CPI has conveyed that it endorses and will actively participate in the October 31 Mass Rally 2018 which will be organized by UCM in association with various CSOs to demonstrate the legitimate wish of the people of the State to the world to live and grow together as Manipuris.

This was informed by secretary Manipur State Council CPI L Sotinkumar during a press meet at Irawat Bhawan, near BT Road today.

Meanwhile, Manipur State Council, CPI Secretary L Sotinkumar asserted that rice under NFS A has not been distributed en masse in the State in many parts for more than seven months this year.

He went on to question the whereabouts of the rice allocated under the Act for the undistributed months while claiming that the scheme was implemented in the year 2013 after CPI along with various political parties and people consistently fought for several years in the Parliament for its implementation.

He also criticized the Stale Government for not taking up necessary measures to address the failure of crops in the State owing to drought like situation and lack of irrigation facilities in the State.

Saying that Manipur State Council, CPI has been standing against threats to disintegrate Manipur and against any divisive policy to break unity among the different communities in the State, Sotinkumar declared that all the party members of different wings will take part in the UCM Rally.

He then welcomed the release of the MU students and teachers who were arrested for many days and the returning of normalcy in the varsity.

He however condemned the State Government for prolonging the turmoil that lasted months.

Decrying the handcuffing of MU Professors while visiting hospital for treatment and conducting raid inside the hostels of the varsity wherein many students and teachers were arrested, Sotinkumar termed the act of the Government as that of a dictatorial and fascism.

He added that the crisis might have been easily prevented in the initial stage had the Government acted on time.
