To save Sangai...Sharda Univ student on 3500 kms cycle ride

Greater Noida, October 17 2018: Rohan Philem, a 23-year-old student of Sharda University has started a bicycle expedition, to save Sangai, from the university campus in Greater Noida on Tuesday.

Sangai is an endemic and endangered subspecies of brow-antlered deer found only in Manipur, India.

Rohan will be covering 3500-kms from Sharda University to his home State Manipur in 35 days.

When asked about his inspirations behind such initiative, Rohan said, "I believe awareness can make greater impact.

This ride aims at making people aware about the fragile environment and endangered Sangai deer in Manipur.

My grandfather served as a forest guard protecting the Sangai deer and I promised to make him proud one day" .

Rohan will be visiting schools and colleges during his ride and will address the issue to students.

He is of the opinion that such programme can really make an impact among the citizens.

Sharda University has provided a new platform to him and helped him in his aim to make people aware about the endangered Sangai deer.

Previously, Rohan has completed two other bicycle expeditions from Delhi to Manipur and Manipur to Kolkata covering a distance of 2800-km and 1700-km respectively.

University Chancellor PK Gupta flagged off the marathon ride.

Along with the Chancellor, students gathered in large number during the flag off event for the marathon ride.

"It is a proud moment for all of us and an inspiration of unity in diversity," said Chancellor PK Gupta congratulating Rohan.

During the expedition, Rohan will ride through Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur.

Rohan will also participate in the Sangai Festival 2018 where he will be welcomed by the Chief Minister of Manipur.

When asked about the safety issues during the ride, Rohan said, "I have the INDIAN flag with me all through the ride.

The power of Indian flag is inevitable" .
